Fashion Practices For Your Environmentally Conscious Self

Sustainability seems to have become an integral part of the things millennials care about and rightfully so! And sustainable fashion is quite a significant part of that. The terms refer to adapting changes to fashion or practicing fashion in a sustainable manner, which is ecologically, socially and environmentally supported. Also termed as eco-fashion, the responsibility of practicing sustainable fashion quite heavily falls on the shoulders of the people.

Some ways in which your environmentally conscious self can practice fashion in a sustainable manner are discussed below –

Swapping Clothes:
Though this practice not only can you give a new spin to someone’s old clothes but allow someone else to do the same, which saves a big chunk of clothes falling into landfills. You can do this with your family and friends or even through social media by finding people who want to do the same!

Donation:
Donating old clothes to the poor is a great way of ensuring that the clothes don’t end up in a landfill. It’s also essential to remember that by donating clothes to someone in need, not only are you saving the environment from dealing with unnecessary trash but also helping someone who can’t afford it.

Vegan Fashion Practices:
Intending to keep the animal lover in you happy, a vegan way of practicing fashion is to ensure that the clothes or accessories you’re buying aren’t causing harm to animals. Clothes and accessories with feathers and furs sometimes involve animal cruelty and artificial methods and so when you do buy these, just make sure you know about the company’s practices.

Recycling and Upcycling:
Upcycling has been showcased in a mainstream manner when designer Marine Serre created articles of clothing by repurposing from items like parachutes and scuba outfits. Fashion brands have also gone as far as creating denim entirely from old jeans. Triarchy being an example of that. To fight against single-use plastic, fashion brands have taken up the responsibility to make the best of used plastic by putting it to use in clothing and reducing the number of plastic that ends up in the ocean. Patagonia and Adidas are noteworthy examples of that.

And if you’re looking for some foreign brands who practice sustainability in their business, here’s a list that you can go through:
1. Adidas
2. Nike
3. Levi’s
4. H&M Conscious
5. Alternative Apparel
