Bangladeshi Films To Premier At Busan International Film Festival

It has recently been announced that ‘Nonajoler Kabbo’ (The Salt in Our Waters),the debut film of Rezwan Shahriar Sumit, and ‘Transit’, the short film of Ariq Anam Khan, got selected to be premiered at the 25th International Film Festival taking place in South Korea on 21st-30th October 2020.

 

BIFF is considered to be the biggest film festival of Asia, and is a pioneer of showcasing the best international talents. This year, Sumit’s feature length film and Khan’s short film are the 2 films that qualified from Bangladesh.

 

‘Nonajoler Kabbo’ is set in a remote coastal village in Bangladesh, highlighting love, resilience, and clash of cultures. It is written and directed by Rezwan Shahriar Sumit, and is a Bangladesh-France coproduction supported by the brilliant director Spike Lee, CNC Aide aux cinemas du monde, Film Anudan, Torino Film Lab’s Audience Design Fund, IEFTA and NFDC Film Bazaar.

 

Its world premiere will take place at the 64th BFI London Film Festival on 13th October, 2020 and the virtual press was held on 8th September, 2020 in the presence of the leading cast, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Titas Zia, and Tasnova Tamanna.

 

‘Transit’ revolves around a salesman waiting for a migrant visa to Italy in the hopes for a better tomorrow for himself and his family. It was directed and written by Ariq Anam Khan, with Sameer Ahmed being its editor and Arafat Mohsin its music composer. Jahangir Alam played the main role with Sharmeen Akhee, Baidya Nath Saha, Khairul Alam Tipu, and Sharif Hossain Emon playing other key characters.

 

The film is set to be screened at BIFF, but the official world premiere will take place at the Encounters Film Festival in UK – at both, the film will compete with short films from around the world in the Main Competition category. The former event would take place in a limited manner in Busan on 21st-30th October, 2020, while the latter got completely shifted to the virtual world due to the pandemic and is currently happening on 17th-27th September, 2020.
