9 Fascinating Facts about Gucci

When we think about fashion, there are certain brands that always come to mind – and one of them is late Gucci. Even though everyone around the globe knows the name, a lot of people are still surprised to find out some of the following very interesting facts.

 

1.       Guccio Gucci, the founder of Gucci, used to work as an elevator operator in Savoy Hotel, London, and seeing the accessories of celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Winston Churchill, he got the idea of starting his own brand.

 

2.       Gucci may have been established in Italy, but its style was inspired by fashion in England.

 

3.       Guccio was known to micromanage every detail of the brand. And when he died in 1953, his sons took over the business, and the signature GG logo was created in his remembrance.

 

4.       In the 1980s, Guccio’s son, Rodolfo, transferred management power to his son, Maurizio, who was then murdered by a hitman hired by his wife, Patrizia Reggiani, in 1995.

 

5.       The “Genius Jeans” of Gucci had made its way into the Guinness World Records for being the most expensive pair of jeans in the late 1990s. It was later broken by Levi’s.

 

6.       The first Gucci runway show was held in Florence, Italy, 60 years after it was established.

 

7.       Gucci’s ‘Chime for Change’ empowers young women, and due to its partnership with UNICEF, a certain percentage of its profits are donated to the organization to provide children of developing countries with better education and clean sources of water.

 

8.       Gucci had almost gone bankrupt in the 1980s, but it has funded at least 200 projects till date.

 

9.       Gucci had hired Tom Ford to be its creative director from 1995 to 2005. And since 2014, Marco Bizzarri, former financial advisor, has been the CEO of this prominent fashion house.
