8 Real-Life Facts About Arya Stark

“A girl is Arya Stark of Winterfell” is one of the more resounding dialogues that made us and everyone watching Game of Thrones fall deeper in love with the character. It’s been 9 long years since the youngest daughter of Ned Stark popped up on our TV screens and made a special place in all our hearts forever. While Arya grew as a character in front of our eyes, so did the actress, Maisie Williams. Here are a few details about her that might help you get to know her better.

1.   Her real name:

Yes, Maisie Williams is not her real name, its Margaret Constance. She prefers to go by Maisie as a tribute to her favourite character from a British comic-strip named “The Perishers”.

2.   Learning it Arya’s way:

Maisie is actually right handed. Since the character she plays (Arya) is left-handed, she had to train herself to become dexterous enough to make it seem like she is left-handed on-screen.

3.   Reading George R.R. Martin’s work:

Game of Thrones is an adaptation of the A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy series by George R.R. Martin. It is a series consisting of seven books, none of which Masie Williams has ever read.

4.   Dating:

Maisie has been dating Ollie Jackson. The two met in school and have been dating since 2015.

5.   A soft heart:

She has been vocal about her disinterest for the graphic content we get to see on the show. In fact, Maisie is not a fan of it at all.

6.   Animal Lover:

Maisie is a humanitarian and a huge animal lover. She has been trying to stand up for animal rights for some time now. Being actively involved with “The Dolphin Project”, she tries to educate the masses about the dangers which dolphins face while she’s not out wielding her needle, shape-shifting or ticking things off her list, so to speak.

7.   Following Audrey Hepburn:

She has made her love for the legendary actor quite well known. It goes as far as exclaiming that her eyebrows are quite similar to Audrey’s.

8.   Dropping out of school:

Between studying and acting, she chose the latter and dropped out of school at the age of 14. Masie has great parents who have always publicly supported her acting career.

The eighth season of Game of Thrones marks the end of a long and beautiful journey for everyone who loved the show. No matter which character you “like”, you are bound to “love” Arya and Maisie at the same time. On that note, let’s enjoy Game of Thrones one last time but refrain from spoiling it for others who are still catching up.
