Trips to Nowhere!

Due to restrictions on traveling, people are stuck at home reminiscing about their previous trips and daydreaming about what their next one will be like. And, now, for that that we have “trips to nowhere” which include both flights and cruises, with the highlight being not the destination, but the journey itself!

These trips are now starting to trend with the Qantas’ offer “flights to nowhere” getting sold out within only 10 minutes. This proves how excited the sightseers are to travel among the clouds again. According to the CEO, Alan Joyce, this was probably the fastest selling flight in the Australian airline’s history, and that if the demand continues, they’re most likely going to organize more of these sightseeing flights.

The journey will be organized on a Qantas Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, which is known for its large windows, and will include the viewing of Queensland and the Gold Coast of New South Wales. The passengers can also spot several beauties such as the Great Barrier Reef and even landmarks like the Bondi Beach from 30,000 feet above the ground.

The 7-hour long flights will be launched today, 10th October. The 134 tickets that were on sale, ranging from AUD$787 to AUD$3,787, provide seats in the business class, premium economy, and economy.

However it’s not the first of its kind. A similar scenic flight, Airbus A321neo, took 120 Taiwanese tourists to view The Japanese Island Miyakojima and flew around Taiwan twice. And, Singapore Airlines is also thinking about doing something similar, but not only via planes but ships as well!

The cruise is about to take place in November 2020, with the help of a partnership between 2 cruise lines. So far, Quantum of the Seas belonging to Royal Caribbean International and World Dream of Genting Cruise Line have been chosen to be the 1st two ships on which the voyages would be planned. The latter is set to start sailing on 6th November and the former in December.

Since nobody wants to take a chance of getting infected, strict hygiene protocols would be maintained, boarding would be done in groups to avoid crowding, and not more than 50% of the ship’s capacity will be filled by travelers. It is exclusively for COVID-19 negative Singaporeans, who must wear masks when stepping out of their staterooms, and it is said to be different than the usual experience of sea-sighting.
