We sat down with her to discuss Bangladesh’s content game today, societal pressures and awesomeness.

Oblivious and modest as ever, she shared with us how she went to become the favorite face on your phone screen.

Her path towards becoming a social media persona wasn’t filled with roses, she had to deal with a substantial amount of body-shaming for the first two months. In retrospect, she says –

“As long as you’re healthy and happy, you shouldn’t really pay much attention to what anybody else has to say about you”

She eventually got over the mean comments in the videos, but she also explained how it made her question herself about decisions that should have been entirely her own.

From the looks of it, Kaarina Kaisar wants it all, but aspires to stay extremely grounded throughout her journey. Which is the same philosophy they live by at Daekho. There is no unhealthy competition, they all believe in keeping each other grounded.

When asked about the work culture Daekho harnesses, Kaarina said –

“None of them are my colleagues, they are like my best friends. It’s an amazing feeling doing what you love the most every day with the people you love the most, and getting paid for it.”

Being the daughter of famous former football player, Md. Kaisar Hamid – one of the many things Kaarina wanted to become while growing up was a tennis player. She read up on all things tennis, got enrolled in a professional tennis school and wanted to follow in the steps of famous Indian tennis player Sania Mirza.

“I was awestruck by her suave, the nose-ring, the short-skirts and that Godly backhand. I wanted to represent Bangladesh, like she represented India”.

That never panned out for Kaarina, but she did manage to harness 72,000 likes on her personal verified facebook page. That has got to count for something.

When asked about the future of the content industry in Bangladesh, Kaarina admired Bongo Boom, Ajaira Ltd. And Tawhid Afridi. But she seems unable to stress enough about the possibilities still unexposed in the content industry in Bangladesh. She really feels something like “The Bachelor” could pick up mass appeal in Bangladesh, and that’s just one of her ideas. Golden, isn’t it?

The team so far is Rezaur Rahman, Ishfaque Kamal, Maliha Zerin, Anthony Finton, Salman Sadi, Deep Azmain, Rafat Zamir, Faisal Mahmud, Safwan Ahmed, Imran Hossain Pavel, Shaon JH, Masudur Rahman, Rakin Absar, Subha Khan, Jamshed Chowdhury, SNN and Kaarina Kaisar herself. With around 300,000 followers on Facebook, Kaarina expects to help Daekho reach masses outside of Dhaka first, and then maybe someday go international. She is really thankful for the response Daekho has gotten so far, but feels there is really a lot more to be done.

The hottest news on the Daekho front is that they are one of the online portals from Bangladesh that famous Youtuber Nabela Noor is collaborating with. The release date for the video hasn’t been set as of yet.

Despite of Daekho’s success within such a short span of time, Kaarina is no stranger to social stigmas our society puts women through. She elaborates how her family has to deal with all sorts of personal questions regarding when she is planning to get married. She faces all sorts of absurd questions about her weight and age in this patriarchal society, and her parents are not spared from it.

Kaarina says she’s waiting for true love, the kind of love you find at a book-store and hold on to forever, the head-over-heels incessant want to be with somebody for the rest of your life. She swears as soon as she finds what she’s looking for, you’ll be the first to know.

Kaarina had two special shout-outs in mind before wrapping up:

1) Rezaur Rahman – the fearless program producer who stops at nothing to make sure everything is in order.

“Reza’s the one who holds it all together” she says.

2) Her mother and father – Only God knows how proudly they are struggling with a gem like Kaarina Kaisar in a society like ours, where media personalities are often not given the respect they deserve.

“Despite having several issues with my timings, my parents have always been very supportive” – says Kaarina.
