The big name companies announced about the glasses at Facebook’s yearly Connect conference where latest technology to improve social interactions are discussed. Details like the name, software, or pricing of the specs have not been disclosed yet.
They said that the product won’t be augmented reality glasses, they are most likely to have cameras on the front but you won’t get the sense of a “3D world”. However, Facebook confirmed that at least 100 of their employees would first wear the research prototypes which could contribute to the company’s Project Aria – an initiative to make AR glasses in the future.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, stated that he knows EssilorLuxottica is the right partner to do the project with to provide people with the best technology through the best glasses.
And Rocco Basilico, Chief Wearable Officer of EssilorLuxottica, said that they are proud to be working with Facebook as it’s going to be a collaboration that will change people’s expectations from eyewear forever.
