The brooding gentleman from Zindagi Gulzar Hai, the dashing prince from Khubsoorat and closeted homosexual from the revered Kapoor and Sons first made his mark in show business in the 2000s, singing for rap/rock and nu-metal band Entity Paradigm.
During the early 2000s, Ahmed Ali Butt, lead vocalist of Entity and Fawad Khan, lead vocalist of Paradigm, were working together for a popular television sitcom Jutt and Bond. Entity Paradigm came into fruition when the programme’s director suggested they come together to make the title track for the show. Because Entity Paradigm came together as a combination of the best of both bands, their most defining music video of “Hamesha” shot over almost a decade ago consisted of two drummers playing two drum-kits. The album received critical acclaim on account of being one of the only concept albums to have come out of Pakistan. Irtiqa is an Urdu word which roughly translates into progress or evolution.
Entity Paradigm currently consists of Fawad Khan, Ahmed Ali Butt, Hassan Khalid, Salman Albert and Waqar Khan.
Breaking through during the early 2000s, and making it to the finals of the first season of Pepsi Battle of the Bands and appearing in the final episode of the second season after breaking up, Entity Paradigm is remembered as a defining rock act in Hindi and Urdu speaking communities.
The legacy Entity Paradigm has left behind reflects the spirit of the chorus of Hamesha if translated into English – “I shall remain, against all odds”.
