Edge Gallery has organized “মৌনকল্প: Reverberance of Silence,” a charity group exhibition to honor Dewan Mizan’s legacy and raise funds for his family. The exhibition features a remarkable collection of 64 artworks contributed by 56 esteemed artists, demonstrating the profound respect and admiration the art community holds for Mizan.
Dewan Mizan, born in 1968 in Shariatpur, Bangladesh, was a revered figure in the art world and served as an Assistant Professor in the Art & Design Department at Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology in Dhaka.Despite his courageous battle with cancer, which led to his passing in June 2023, Mizan’s influence, and legacy continue to resonate deeply within the community.
The exhibition employs the concept of “ekphrasis,” an ancient Greek term referring to the vivid, often dramatic verbal description of visual art. This technique serves as a connection between the visual and literary arts, allowing one medium to amplify and illuminate the other. In this context, ekphrasis becomes a powerful tool to articulate the unspoken narratives embedded within the artworks, resonating with silence and the reverberations of hidden stories. The artworks on display not only reflect the sorrow and hollowness that permeates society but also glimmer with hope for the future, embodying the spirit of resilience and the potential for renewal.
Edge Gallery invites art enthusiasts, collectors, and the public to join us in celebrating the life and legacy of Dewan Mizan. This exhibition is not only an opportunity to appreciate the profound impact of his work but also a chance to contribute to a meaningful cause. By attending and supporting this event, one will be helping to honor a great artist and educator while providing much-needed assistance to his family.
The exhibition will be open to all till 24 July 2024.
Visiting Hours: Everyday from 10 am to 8 pm.
