Apple’s New Custom Face Mask For Employees

The latest addition to Apple’s line of signature products is surprisingly not electronic. It’s a mask, named the Apple Face Mask, which somehow triumphed over iMask. The Industrial and Engineering Design teams at Apple came together to develop this mask in-house, at the Cupertino location for their corporate and retail employees.

Back in April, Apple CEO Tim Cook had posted a video on Twitter, where he talked about the idea of face shields, “we’ve launched a company wide effort bringing together product designers, engineering operations, packaging teams and our suppliers to design, produce and ship face shields for health workers.” During a discussion with Bloomberg, Apple mentioned they had implemented “careful research and testing” in order to effectively combine the right materials that would allow the filtration of air without interfering with the medical application of the protective equipment.

Apple’s Face Mask will include a three-layer design to filter incoming and outgoing particles and can be washed and reused up to five times. Like most other masks on the market, Apple’s Face Mask has a triangle shape to contour the nose without creating fog for glass wearers, a rounded portion for the chin and adjustable straps to go around the ears. Rumors have it that Apple are also developing a transparent mask to accommodate people who are deaf or have hearing impairments so they can understand the wearer.

Customers visiting Apple stores will be provided with commercially available masks. While some pictures of the packaging and product have been circulated on Twitter, Apple’s employees are expected to be seen with their new, custom masks over the next two weeks.
