7. Gothica, Caran d’Ache – $487,000

This uniquely shaped fountain pen was inspired by hexagonal shapes and architecture. The hexagon-shaped body is made up of solid rhodium-coated silver. This pen pays homage to Gothic art and architecture. Windows of blue ombre are intertwined with alternating patterns of prismatic fleur-delis and rosettes, common themes from Gothic architecture.  These symbols are complimented by 72 emeralds and 72 rubies. If that wasn’t enough, another 892 diamonds have been encrusted into the cap and barrel, weighing a total of 7.1 carats.

 

 

6. Mystery Masterpiece, Montblanc – $730,000

When released in 2007, the Mystery Masterpiece was the most expensive pen of its kind. Montblanc teamed up with Van Cleef and Arpels to produce only nine of these gorgeous fountain pens. All the variations featured upward of 800 brilliant diamond accents weighing 30 carats and these gems were perfectly matched with rubies, sapphires or emeralds encrusted along the body. The body is formed by white gold with a skeletonized flora themed overlay.  The nib is 18k gold while the cap of this pen is topped off with Montblanc signature white star in diamonds.

 

 

5. Heaven Gold Pen, Anita Mai Tan- $995,510

Inspiration for the creation of Heaven Gold was drawn from the changing alignments of the planets. The body of the Heaven Gold pen is made of 24k rose gold. The cap of this pen is where the magic lies. The crest of the cap is embedded with 161 colored diamonds which encircle a 43k Tsavorite gemstone, an incredibly rare green colored grossular garnet mined in Africa. Tsavorite stones have are estimated to be more than 2 billion year old. A 5-petaled flower, diamond and a heart shape compliment the pen clip. A total of 1,888 diamonds are displayed by the Heaven Gold fountain pen.

 

 

4. 1010 Diamonds Limited Edition, Caran d’Ache- $ 1,000,000

1010 Diamonds LE is crafted from white gold and three cuts of diamonds: baguette, emerald and brilliant. The open caged barrel design are filled with numerous gears set with 850 emerald-cut diamonds and centered with “Swiss Made” and “CdA” monogram. The cap is surrounded by twenty-six lines of perfectly aligned 22 baguette-cut diamonds. The base of the cap has a ring of 88 baguette-cut diamonds. The nib is 18k solid gold, rhodium-plated and engraved with the gear wheel design of 1010 LE collection.

 

 

3. Diamante, Aurora- $1,470,000

The only pen in the world with more than 30 carats of diamonds, Aurora produce just one Diamante per year. This pen boasts an impressive set of more than 2,000 diamonds encrusted on the solid platinum barrel. The cap contains DeBeers diamonds similar to the barrel. The finial houses an opulent, larger diamond cabochon. The nib of the pen is a two-toned, 18k solid gold nib, plated with rhodium.

 

 

2. Boheme Royal, Montblanc, $1,500,000

Crafted from 18k white gold, more than 1,430 glistening diamonds make up the curved patterns of the barrel. The Boheme Royal also features a rare, platinum based retractable nib, forged from 18k gold. The cap forms a zigzag pattern following the flow from the barrel. The pen’s clip is highlighted by a paramount-cut diamond. The trademark Montblanc star logo is comprised of 18k while gold rings and 19 sparkling diamonds.

 

 

1. Fulgor Nocturnus, Tibaldi- $8,000,000

Fulgor Nocturnus sold for the mind boggling price of $8,000,000 at a charity auction in Shanghai 2010, by an anonymous bidder. The Fulgor Nocturnus is based on the Golden Ratio, also known as the divine proportion of Phi, which can be found in art, nature and architecture. The ratio between the cap and the visible portion of the barrel when closed is 1.618, the number representing Phi. The Latin translation for Fulgor Nocturnus is “Night Glow”. This fountain pen is made from solid ruthenium-plated 18k gold, dressed with 945 black diamonds. While the cap features black diamonds along with 123 rubies, the nib of the pen is partially plated with platinum and rhodium. It’s no surprise only one has ever been made!
