Wedding Masks In Fashion

Coronavirus may have caused death toll to go up and economy to go down, but it couldn’t change one thing which is people promising to be there for each other through sickness and in health till death do them apart. And, that is what gave birth to the idea of wedding masks!

Thousands of weddings around the globe got cancelled due to restrictions of large crowds as that is where the virus is likely to spread the most and the fastest. However, couples are now resorting to smaller weddings or even digital ones, with full protection for the safety of themselves as well as those around them. Most couples are wearing surgical masks, but some have gone an extra mile to wear fashionable ones to match their outfits.

The one that caught everyone’s attention is the bride from Guwahati, Assam, on 22nd May 2020. Even the groom’s mask matched their wardrobe. Nandini Borkakati, the designer of the masks, said that the idea behind them was to provide protection to the happy couple as well as to encourage people to wear creative masks made of fabric so that surgical masks could be used by medical staff who need them more abundantly during this crisis.

When some weddings consist of no one more than the happy couple, others are inviting a few guests, but masks are mandatory for everyone. And since brides want to stand out on their wedding day, increasing number of women are inclined to buy these unique protective gears.

Designers are coming up with new and innovative masks to protect the couples but also make them look glamorous on such an important day of their lives. Makeup artists have started to wear PPE when working with the brides, who themselves wear shields right after they’re done looking their best. You can clearly see how beautiful they look, but the shield also allows you to get a sense of safeguarding.

Since it is safer to just order online, some of the most stylish masks are being sold on Etsy. They have ones made of cotton, linen, and much more with amazing laces and embroidery. You can find them in different colours including floral and even plaid. Some even have writings on them such as “Just Married” or “Mr.” and “Mrs.”.

But not all designers are in support of this new trend since it may encourage people to go to gatherings and it may hurt those who have lost their loved ones to the virus recently. However, most designers are just trying to shed a light what little happiness we could find in these dark times. We are constantly being told to maintain our distance, but these masks are helping those in love start a new life together.

So, what’s your take on this “new normal”?
