How to take care of your vehicles when you’re not using them for a long time

During the coronavirus pandemic, you may have to leave your vehicles parked for a while throughout this quarantine period, here are a few things you should remember to do in order to keep your vehicle in mint condition while it is parked.

1) First and foremost, you should always try and park your vehicle in a covered garage instead of out in the open sunlight, as constant direct sunlight may reduce the lifespan of the paint on your vehicle which in turn may begin to chip off in the future, it is recommended to also use a proper vehicle cover to avoid dirt and dust which also may damage the paint of the vehicle.

2) When parking a vehicle for a long time, you should always make sure that your fuel tank is filled to the brim, due to the fact that when unused for a long period of time, moisture may get into the fuel tank and begin to rust the interior and causing extensive damage to the vehicle which may cost you a lot of money to repair in the future.

3) It is always recommended to disconnect the battery before parking your vehicle for long periods of time, due to the fact that majority of the vehicles include a security system which will slowly eat at the battery even when the vehicle is not being used. It is also recommended to apply lubrication on the battery terminals in order to prevent rusting as well.

4) It is imperative to make sure you check the pressure of your tires before parking your vehicle for an extended period of time, due to the fact that if tire reduces in air, it may damage the rims and/or crack some parts of the tire in which you may need to replace the tires entirely. Always make sure to check if there are any present leaks in the tire or the valves in order to prevent damage.

5) It’s important that you change your vehicle’s oils before leaving for a long period of time due to the fact that the oils contain moisture, dirt and other corrosive materials in them which may harm your engine over time, changing your filters is also optional but not mandatory.

6) Last but not the least, it is extremely important to remember to not engage your handbrakes when leaving the vehicle parked for a long period of time, due to the fact that the brake pads of the vehicle may end up getting stuck to the disk brakes and damaging them heavily the next time you drive the vehicle, it is advised to use bricks in order to keep the vehicle from rolling.
