First Ever Bangladeshis to win the DLA Piper Global Scholarship

The Prestige asked the first ever Bangladeshis to have been awarded with the DLA Piper Global Scholarship about their aspirations, future plans and study hacks.

DLA Piper (Highest ranked law-firm in UK, 2018) and the fourth highest grossing law-firm in the world, has awarded the first two Bangladeshis (Sabiha Mehzabin Oishee and Kalyan Chakrabarty) with their prestigious DLA Piper Global Scholarship.

The scholarship shall bear all university expenses for these two students from here on out. (Tuition, books, internet and phone bills)

They will also be flown across the world to attend fellowship programs. Hotels, tickets, visa, accommodation, vaccination, hotel services, transportation, all provided by the DLA Global Piper Scholarship fund.

Let’s hear from our very own scholars about the study hacks they used, where they are going and how it all works.

How did you get to know about the DLA Piper Scholarship and its prospects, and how did you prepare for it?

Sabiha Mehzabin : My mentor at NSU asked me to apply, the scholarship is only offered to the top 5% students of the department and I needed a letter of reference from all of our professors. I started working towards the scholarship ever since I applied for it. (second year of my undergrads) I took regular notes in class, never left the class without getting all my questions answered by the teacher (even beyond regular class timings sometimes) and went through the notes every day once I was home. Brief summary notes have also helped me out before exams all my life.

Kalyan Chakrabarty : Research, research, research. I looked up the rights DLA Piper were working towards – refugee rights and children rights. I did specific and solid research about what DLA Piper stands for, what factors they base their decisions on and tried to get a concise and clear grasp over what I can offer them, and what their vision is.

What are your holistic goals?

Kalyan Chakrabarty : I aspire to bring justice to my community, nation and the world.

Sabiha Mehzabin : I want to be a corporate lawyer.

They went through a selection process and interview rounds to finally get selected for the DLA Piper Global Scholarship.

If you had to sum up all of your advice in one line:

Samira : Self-confidence and self-help have always worked wonders for me.
Kalyan : Getting published in reputed journals always help. Communications, networking and extra-curriculars in my preferred field has always helped me reach my goals faster.

With Zaheed Sabur being the first ever Bangladeshi to become the principal engineer at Google and now these two Law birds acquiring DLA Piper fellowship, our Green and Red flag is going places.

You. Yes, you.
