1. Aneeka Bushra

Dancing from a young age is how Aneeka Bushra started her journey in the world of makeup. Realizing that the makeup done on her for dance performances basically made her unrecognizable is what prompted her to start doing her own thing and look how she wanted to look. With the help of makeup tutorials on YouTube she started her journey of being a self-made makeup artist in 2011. During a time when makeup artists were just starting to get exposure, she got her first client in the form of a bride who was her friend, back in 2016. This is what eventually started her professional career which grew from having clients in her home to getting a studio.
She plans on getting more training and expanding her palette so that she can have her own salon in the future, where customers’ needs will be thoroughly catered to, offering services others don’t. Her advice to upcoming makeup artists is to be active on social media in this digital age and to never stop nurturing and teaching oneself.

2. Jenifar Julie

Born and raised in Chattogram, Jenifar Julie hoped to do something of her own after graduation. While she felt like she was never sure of what she wanted to do in life, her love for makeup from a young age was encouraged by her friends to be pursued. Within just a year she was met with an overwhelmingly positive response. However, even in the face of so much positivity, the struggles and criticisms of doing something so unconventional didn’t stop. In fact, the nature of her work was so unfamiliar to most that she had to initially hide it from her father. A journey that started 4 years ago was eventually encouraged by him provided she could meet targets set by him. Meeting the targets in 8 months with the help of extremely supportive friends, her work moved from the walls of her room to a studio set up by her father.
While Jenifar feels that plans don’t necessarily work for her and has nothing set in stone, she hopes that she can have some kind of a school for makeup so that people can choose this as a proper career.

3. Karishma Rahman

Karishma Rahman was born in London, the youngest in a family of 4 sisters. Her creativity was always expressed through her love for art and dressing up from a young age. That one kid in class who was always experimenting with makeup started doing makeup on her mom and neighbors when her sister got her a huge makeup kit for kids. At the tender age of 15, she did her first official makeup for her cousin on her wedding day. It was, however, a friend of hers who went to an event after getting made up by Karishma and pushed her to open a Facebook page because of how well received the look was. She opened her Facebook page in December 2014 and by January she was fully booked. A lover of Math and numbers eventually gave into her love for makeup over every lucrative job opportunity that came her way.
In the future, she wants to own her own studio and have her own team. And she urges the younger makeup artists to hold on to their passion and know that the sacrifices that come with it are worth it.

4. Lazina Elma

An IT professional at the start of her career, Lazina Elma always felt that something was missing in her professional life. A day spent at a workshop that filled her up with nothing but positive vibes is where her exploration of makeup started. Her freshly explored passion took further shape as she got internationally certified from MUFE Academy and SMA in Bangkok. Although starting this journey in her late 20s could have been deemed late by a lot of people, her extremely supportive family encouraged her continuously. She believes that one can never learn enough which is why she’s found abroad constantly attending workshops and master classes every year to shape herself up to be a better makeup artist and stay ahead of the game. All of this hard work and training have actually given her the chance to work across Asia as a fashion, editorial and bridal hair & makeup artist. In fact, while getting trained in Bangkok, she got the chance to have her work featured on Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar Thailand. She encourages the younger makeup artists to pursue proper education in this particular line of work before taking it up as a professional career. Especially because taking up the responsibility of making a bride look her best on her big day is a mammoth deal. And it’s also necessary to keep client expectations to a realistic level and so it’s best to avoid over editing with skin smoothing filters and keep it real!

5. Rubaiyet Kabir Rabita

A true lover of makeup who always wore the kind of makeup that expressed her unique style, Rabita was inspired by the compliments she received from her friends and family on her makeup. In fact, it went as far as her being requested by her peers to provide them with makeovers for different events, as her subtle makeup was always in contrast to the traditional caked up looks. Starting her journey in April 2016, she has never looked back, especially because of the positive feedback she has received from her clients. Although she started her journey by teaching herself the ways to adapt to a professional touch by doing secondary research, she later completed an international bridal makeup course from London School of Makeup. All of which have shaped her to be the much appreciated makeup artist that she is today.
She has always wanted to have a studio that would cater to a limited number of people in order to provide a premium level of service. However, she has been requested to open a big studio by a lot of her clients so that’s something that she has at the back of her mind for the future. As for new makeup artists, she advices them to keep one simple thing in mind – quality over quantity.

So, the next time you have an event to attend and don’t know who to reach out to, just go through this and maybe you’ll find the perfect match for your big day!
