We interviewed star-trainer Yasmin Karachiwala at the Body Image Studio Dhaka at the pop and posh InnStar on Road 23, Banani on a warm Saturday afternoon. Training the likes of Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone and Kareena Kapoor, and apart from being a BASI certified trainer and the godmother of Pilates in these parts of town, Yasmin is so much more.
We were greeted by warm faces and intimidating equipment, and calmed down in the presence of the person who knew her way around them the best – Ms. Karachiwala herself.
When asked about which one of her clients she wished she had more time to train, she said, none. Which is no surprise, because a woman who has been in the industry for more than 30 years, does not settle for anything less than excellent results.
One of Yasmin’s most sought after exercise routines takes only 10 minutes. You do it thrice a day, and you are golden. You can check them out in her Tedtalk video on youtube.
Even after having trained the likes of superstars like Kaarena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu and Sonakshi Sinha, the ambition in Yasmin hasn’t seem to have fettered. We asked her, what would she do if she knew she could not fail? She said, she would like to have the power of flight? Pretty cool? Right. We thought so too.
Coupled with an illustrious career, she isn’t committed to one single thing. The superwoman does it all. When asked about what lights her up? She talked about her sons.
To finish off, and to give you a hint about how modest she is – She said she would try to be better when asked how she would behave if she was the best at the world at what she does.
Yasmin Karachiwala’s Body Image Studio in Dhaka is not just a gym, but a fitness center. Being equipped with state of the art Pilates equipment, and dedicated space for partners working out together, you have to enroll to understand the significance of it all.
